Coffee is such a common drink all over the world that it seems hard to find out any distinction of Hanoi café.

It’s true that in Hanoi, you can see many coffee shops with the homogenous Western styles, but typical Hanoi cafés still have their own distinguishable characteristic, which seems so strange to foreigners but worth giving a try.

Contrast to the luxurious and convenient coffee shops in big streets, Hanoi traditional coffee shops are much smaller, simpler and stand so modestly in a corner of the street that sometimes visitors pass by without realizing it’s a café. No matter how crowded it is, the coffee shop is always in a quiet and peaceful atmosphere with soft whispers and people in deep thoughts.

Coffee here is commonly raw coffee, grinded and made right at home, with the sellers’ own secret recipes, which gives the coffee a special flavor and fragrance. And one of the most famous and popular coffee here is Egg coffee – the exclusive drink of Giảng café which is also named Vietnamese Cappuccino by foreign visitors.

Coffee shops like that are often found in the Old Quarter, with some “branded” names like Cafe Giảng , Café Nắng, Café Lâm, Café Mai, …..
